Week in Review: Sunday October 30th – Saturday November 5th
November 8, 2022Almost There…(Where?)
November 21, 2022As the freshest face to grace the band known as Ronin. There is a lot to be said for someone who enters an environment willing to work and sweat as hard as these guys do. I was 22 when I first joined Ronin. Prior to that I had been taking time to take care of myself for a better, happier and more fulfilling life. I struggled a lot with being part of a functioning working band mostly due to poor communication, substance abuse, and creative differences. After taking the necessary time to work on myself and gain a sense of equilibrium, I revisited a handful of albums from local bands that were on Long Island.
As I browsed my collection of local music, I came across this very one particular album. I had put two of the tracks in my lifting playlist back in April of 2021.
The artwork was of a very intense scene; “An armored clad samurai sitting in the middle of a pasture. Injured and waiting to feel the movement of his enemy to make his strike.”
You can see where I’m going with this right? Intrigued, I took a chance at listening to this album again. I was captured by simple, yet energetic and fun tunes that this band had written. Little did I know; moving back into town after a 4 year hiatus would net me an audition with the band.
I practiced every single day up to my audition; keeping up my routine. I wanted to make sure on pace with the tracks they gave me. I returned my bass to the holistic [redacted] to make sure I was One and the Same with the band. (“You would think i would tell you secrets but no they’re secrets for a reason.”) The Greetings I received from each member were warm and mature, with each member littering their personality out on the practice stage for me to engage with. This cultivation of our personalities allowed me to start a fire under the chairs and bottoms of my brothers.
As a member from the outside looking in I can definitely say since I’ve joined the band each member has grown and their skills and their abilities tenfold since when I started jamming with them. That’s not to say correlation equals causation. However, every now and then I hear some of the kindest and meaningful words from my brother. “Bo, turn down your bass. Bo what note are you playing.Bo slow you’re speaking too fast.”
The opportunity that they gave me to be able to push through my journey in sobriety, work with like minded creatives has been nothing shy but amazing. The dynamic layers and riffs that we have created since I have joined have found a home in this beautiful project.
“I just realized I was supposed to write about this week.”
To keep things brief without any spoilers.
- We have one more studio session to cover backing vocals, and additional FX.
- The band took this week to rest and gather themselves as the last studio day is upon us.
- We have a new V-@wodjdomdpqidb. “Looks like the cat I’m taking care of wanted to get in on this post too.”
- The new album has a distinct flavor, and sound. “Yes, you can actually taste it.”
- His arrival is approaching
To summarize, I am very proud of the work we have put into this new album. It’s going to be a little upsetting that our time in the studio will come to a close. However, the amount of memories we made and people we met have been burned into my camera roll for eternity. I can’t wait to get everyone to work on the new-new riffs that have been cooking behind the scenes of [Redacted].
Because who wouldn’t want to be in the studio again after an amazing experience? Also no I’m not name dropping album… yet.
